E = MC2
From the theory of special relativity Einstein derived perhaps the most famous equation in all of science: E = mc2. Scientists had long believed that matter and energy were two different things. This elegant equation overturned that idea. It expresses the fact that mass and energy are the same physical entity. In the equation, E stands for energy, m for mass, and c for the speed of light (which is a constant). Energy can thus be changed into mass, and mass can be changed into energy.
